Scales

How often do you purchase a scale? I went to the doctors office yesterday and I weighed 194!! HOLY CRAP - I'VE LOST WEIGHT!!!! The doctor's scale is NEVER less then my scale at home - especially 4 pounds lighter!!!! I weighed myself at home (naked) 3 days ago and it said I was 197.6, I go to the doctors office today and step on the scale fully clothed WITH sneakers and it says 194!!! Wooo-hoooo!
Now, how did that happen??!! I'm wondering if it's as simple as changing the batteries in my scale? I'm pretty sure this is a fairly new scale. I remember one we had in CO that you stepped on and it calculated your water/fat/weight - it was all complicated; you had to enter your age/height (hated it). This isn't that scale so sometime in the past 2 years I bought this one. That doesn't sound old to me.

OUCH!

I decided to run again today. I was ho-humming about it all morning too, but in the end decided to just go for it. I sort of jumped ahead to week 4 in the training. I guess I'm technically not doing the C25K program, but really I'm not a couch person so it's a little too easy. I have to modify it until I get comfortable with my watch. I love that it beeps so I know to stop running and start running, but I don't like that I can only do 2 intervals. That's honestly why I'm modifing the program. Week 4 is supposed to be jog 3 min/walk 90 sec; jog 5 min/walk 2 1/2 min; jog 3 min/walk 90 sec; jog 5 min. What I did was jog 3 min/walk 90 sec 4 times. I wanted to do 6 times, but had a few set backs. I did the first 2 with no problems, the 3rd one started on a slow downward slope and then turned into a huge hill. I told myself I can get up this darn hill, and you should've seen the smile on my face when I did!!!! I got all the way to the top, crested it and started to head down when my watch beeped to stop! YEAH ME! So I got to walk down the hill, and this is where I went wrong...I headed left instead of right. My 4th jog time ended right at the bottom of the MASSIVE hill leading up to our home...you know the one Chris - right across from the golf course. I walked up the hill, and by the time I got to the top my calves were killing me, so I walked a little further, ran for one minute and then Katelynn started yelling for the playground we were passing, so why not. We stopped. I did pretty good today. Walking up that hill was probably just as good as if I'd run for 10 minutes. Poor Vinson was dragging up the hill too. I'm pretty sure it was close to 90 degrees outside.
I didn't run the normal path through the woods because I was doubling my time so I figured something more scenic would be nice...and it was, just a little too hilly for me right now.
My new running shoes I bought right before I got pregnant are getting more comfortable. They hurt my feet when I first started running (probably all the extra weight I'm carrying), but seem to be much better now.
I'm thinking that I'm going to look into those long sleeve moisture wicking shirts for running. My arms are really starting to freckle up so I should seriously start covering up more. Love the new hat you gave me Barb! It works great at keeping the sun off my head, but boy does it make my head sweat. LOL - is it possible to lose weight in your head?! Ha, ha. :)
NEway, I think that the 3 min/90 sec split for 30 minutes is going to be my goal. I did 4 sets today, I'll aim for 6 sets on either Saturday or Sunday. I need to take a day off so I don't hurt myself.

Getting There

I'm doing much better right now. I've all but nixed my late night eating habits. PLUS for 2 days in a row now I've done my C25K (Couch to 5K program) workout. I want to do a 5K on September 24th. I don't have enough weeks to start the program on week 1, so I started with week 2. I wanted to start with week 3, but I haven't figured out how to program my new watch for the week 3 intervals. I figure since I'm short on time what I will do is run 4 to 5 times a week. The C25K program I printed out wants you to run 3 times a week, so I figure what I'll do is do the 3 runs for the week and then on my 4th and/or 5th run start the next week. That will help me get all of it in before race day, and if I have trouble with a week I can just extend that week a little.
Right now I'm running for 90 seconds and walking for 2 minutes. You're supposed to do it for 20 minutes, so yesterday I did the cycle 6 times for 21 minutes. Today I felt energetic and I did 8 cycles, so I did 27 minutes. My last cycle I jogged up a hill. What was I thinking?!? But, hey, I figured if I can make it up this hill now, then the big hill by the house should be doable soon. It took me the full 90 seconds to get up the hill, BUT I got up it without stopping!!! YEAH ME!!
I must've been feeling really energetic today because tonight I did the sexy leg routine on exercise tv! YEAH ME, again! :)
Barb, I was thinking for our meeting this week that we should print out our food log and critique each other's food. Might help us see something the other is missing.

Ummm....yeah

Okay, so I haven't tracked my food at all this week. I'm not so sure I'm doing good with cutting out the carbs. If anything I'm doing really bad. I have this problem lately with just wanting to eat and eat and eat. It's worse at night when the kids go to bed and I sit down in front of the computer. I think that will be my focus in this upcoming week - low cal/late night snacks.
The heat has been down right unbearable. I sweat like a pig just walking the kiddos I can't even imagine running. As I was walking today I thought, "well I did run in heat like this in Bahrain, so really it's not much different." I think I just talked myself into running on our next walk!
I did order a new watch to help with the timing of my runs. I want to get back into the Couch to 5K program but I need to be able to track time so I know when to walk/run. It should arrive on Friday. I have 8 weeks until the September 24th race and the program takes 9 weeks - I really don't think that one week is going to make a difference especially since I ran a 5k with Chris in CO and we didn't even train for it.
I'm going to go and update my food into livestrong for the day - scary!

Trying Again

Okay, here we go again! Sorry for the disappearance. It's been hectic around here. I recently bought a jogging stroller and have gone on several runs with the kiddos. I've been running the wooded sections of our neighborhood. I'm not sure what the distances are - I've just been focusing on running (or rather jogging).
Weight wise I've lost 1 pound.
Barb and I have decided to do our own weight watcher type meetings. We had our first "official" meeting Saturday night. Last week Barb decided to start tracking on Livestrong again, so I made it my goal to track to. I did 3 out of 4 days. This week we've decided to cut back on our carbs and we made it a goal to eat out no more then one time.
Exercise wise I'd like to run 4 or 5 times this week. On September 24th they are having a 5K on base. I'm going to make it my goal to run it. I think I've got plenty of time to prepare. I'm not sure where to go to gauge how far I can run, but I'll find somewhere in early September to make sure I'm on track. I'll sign up for it on our next payday so that I can't back out.
