I'm thinking that maybe I should set some goals for week 2.
Goal #1 - I'm going to attempt pull-ups! I was told to try the chair, so I'm going to. It can't hurt any, and maybe I won't feel like such a failure for sitting on the floor using bands. I just have to find a way to bring the hubby's pull-up bar downstairs and find a chair. Otherwise I'll be pausing the tape and running upstairs every few minutes.
Goal #2 - Do 25 reps of 3 Ab Ripper X exercises! Right now I can do 25 of 2 sets, I'll aim for one more set next week. I'm still getting ab cramps, so I have to stop and stretch during the routine. I hate that...two pregnancies have really weakened my ab muscles.
Goal #3 - Order Recovery Drink Mix. I've heard nothing but good things about it, so I'm going to order it this weekend.
Goal #4 - Work on getting the food portion down. It's confusing to me, so I'm going to spend my evening tomorrow making out a menu for the week.
Try your best, and forget the rest!

P90X, Day 6 - KENPO X!!
I'm going to look forward to Kenpo X every week that I get to do it. I loved, loved, loved it!!! What a great, fun workout. Reminds me a lot of kickboxing classes. I wanted more! Wish it was 90 minutes like Yoga.
Since I missed the Ab Ripper X on Day 5, I added it tonight. I did better. There are only 2 exercises that I can do all 25 on - Pulse-ups and the leg climbs. My worst one is the V-up/Roll-up. That one is a killer.
I don't know what it is about P90X, but I feel like Superwoman! I know I've said that before, but there is something about finishing one of these workouts that just puts a huge smile on my face. I LOVE IT!
Tomorrow is my rest day. I missed yesterday, but I'm still going to rest tomorrow. I'm headed out of town for the day and I'm not sure I'll make it back, so I'll keep it a rest day. Week 2 starts on Saturday!
Bring it!!

Running
No P90X tonight. It's 915pm and I'm just getting done with things for the day. I'll call today my rest day and get back into it tomorrow night...I was wondering how long I'd be able to go before a night like tonight happened. Not a bad string of days though!
I went for a run this afternoon. The skies cleared and the sun came out, so I grabbed the kiddos and off we went. It was a good run. I did 2 miles in 25 minutes and then I walked the last mile in 25 minutes! HA! I let Katelynn out of the double jogging stroller so we walked it at her pace - does that burn more or less calories?! LOL.
Now my foot is sore again though. I really do think it's from the double jogging stroller and the extra weight it requires me to push. I believe that I have plantar fascitis. When I read up on it it sounds exactly like what I've been going through. I've never EVER had problems with my feet when running (and since I was in the military I used to do it a lot), so I really do believe it's from the jogging stroller. And even though I bought the shoes from a running store (Boulder Running Co. in CO - LOVE them!) that was 15 less pounds ago and without pushing the stroller. I'll see if the home remedies work and if not I'll have to head to a doctor. Seems like a pretty common problem with runners though.
Until tomorrow, do your best, and forget the rest!

Really?!?
CRAP! I just realized I forgot to do the Ab Ripper again. He seriously needs to add it to the end of the routine, or make it a point to say, "Don't forget Ab Ripper boys and girls." Too late now...I've already showered. I think I'll throw it in on my rest day. Shoot, shoot, shoot.
Seriously though, what's happening to my memory?! LOL
Seriously though, what's happening to my memory?! LOL
Day 5, P90X
I saw the most perfect quote on Facebook today, "Oh, I know I'll improve. It's just that my life is a perfect graveyard of buried hopes now. That's a sentence I read once, and I say it over to comfort myself in these times that try the soul." - Anne Shirley, Anne of Green Gables. It seems so fitting most days!
Today was legs and back, oh my! I loved, loved, loved the leg portion of this routine. I kept up with all of them and really felt the burn on some. I was not so thrilled with the back portion - I can't do a single pull-up, so I was sitting on the floor with my band attached to the door doing arm pulls. I hate doing it that way. It makes me feel like a failure. I know we all have to start somewhere though, I just feel silly. When I was working out with a trainer I would do pull-ups with the bar at my hip level and my feet extended out (kind of like an upside down push-up). I was getting good at them too and I know I was close to being able to actually do one (before I got prego with baby #2). I wish there was a way to have one of those bars here instead of my husband's bar that taunts me every time I walk past it. Darn thing!
I almost didn't do P90X tonight. I think my little guy is teething. It took me forever to get him to go to sleep and I was so tired, but I put it in and pushed play anyway. I'm so glad I did. I don't know what it is about these workouts - they make me feel like superwoman! Maybe it's the whole, "I'm doing P90X" thing. I don't know, but I like it!
I've been hearing more and more about the recovery drinks so I'm going to do some research on them, and if I decide to do it we get paid on Friday...just in time for week 2! Right now I have a glass of chocolate milk and an apple (sometimes a Kashi TLC granola bar) after my workouts. Yes, people, I said chocolate milk! Here is an article about it (just do a google search...there are tons of them!):
http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/news/20100604/chocolate-milk-refuels-muscles-after-workout
My husband actually told me about the whole chocolate milk thing (or did I tell him?)...I don't remember anymore, but that's what he does after he lifts. I think it's working pretty well for me.
I have my weigh in with my facebook support group tomorrow! I'm hoping I dropped a pound or two this week. I feel good and like I've been eating well, but honestly I haven't tracked. I have so many other things to do then try and log into yet another website. I was keeping a journal, but it doesn't really help me other then I know WHAT I ate, and it all gets jumbled together on the pages...so annoying! So, yeah, I'm still struggling with the whole food portion. I always have, and probably always will.
So, just remember what Dr. Seuss says, "today you are you, that is truer than true, there is no one alive who is youre then you" - you can do it!

Weight-loss Competition
Okay, I promise that this is my last blog for the day. I just kept remembering stuff after I posted. LOL.
I met someone on the Beachbody website and they invited me to join their facebook group. It's a page that basically just supports each other on their journey - great concept! Well, they are doing a weight loss competition that ends on Thanksgiving. I made my goal to lose 20 pounds, but I'll be happy with 15...heck I'll be happy with any weight loss. I've been stagnate in the 195-200 range for so long now.
I think if I lose 20 then I'll celebrate with cool whip on my pumpkin pie, oh, or maybe some type of pumpkin protein shake...is there such a thing? I'll have to research it.

Running Update
I am still running. I didn't get out today though because Katelynn is still fighting her cold. She had a temp of 99.9, so I didn't want to risk taking her out. I talked to Shannon and we are going to try and run tomorrow evening which should be interesting because P90X is supposed to be legs, but technically that probably won't bother me until Wednesday's run!
I came across an article in the new Oxygen magazine that my sister gave me. They talked about Jeff Galloway (I had never heard of him) who wrote Running and Fat Burning for Women, and he's completed over 150 marathons. His biggest piece of advice for runners is to use the run/walk method. YEAH US! That's what we do. We run for 3 minutes, walk for 2 minutes and repeat as many times as we can (we've gotten up to 5). Galloway believes that the run/walk method helps to replenish a runner's energy. I couldn't agree more! I think the walk breaks really do help making running longer easier. I used to think that you had to run, run, run, but now I know better. I'm applying P90X to everything I do these days, "Do your best, and forget the rest."

Day 4 - Yoga X
When they say Yoga X, they mean X!!! HA! My goodness! I'm so glad that I waited until the kids went to bed because it really let me relax and get into the moves - which is extremely necessary with this DVD; that and the fact that it's 90+ minutes long.
You will seriously Warrior that Downward Dog right out of yourself - he, he. I think I did really well, until we hit the Crane. Um, yea. The other one I had trouble with was Plough (right? I think that's what it was called...shoulder something). I got myself up (which is truly a feat when you think about how much weight is being heaved up there), but that's it. I didn't make it into any of the other poses, but I WILL! Those two were the toughest for me, but I like a challenge!
I was "happy" when the Yoga ended, but then all the fun balance poses started. I actually liked the poses though, they were a good-kind of tough. I thought it was funny how at the very end you are in a calm, collected state of mind and then the infomercial starts yelling at you. It was too funny.
I really do like P90X so far. It seems to be just right for me. It's tough, but yet it has this "feeling" of being doable. I was thinking that maybe the best thing to do for the rest of the week is to just do the exercises when the kiddos go to bed...at least until I know what to expect. So far it's been working out. I'm day 4 of 4. Yeah me!!
Let's see what tomorrow brings. Do your best, and forget the rest!

P90X, Day 3
Feel the burn baby! HA! What a great workout. I thought, boy today should be pretty laid back with just shoulders, arms, and an ab routine (which I missed the first day). I put in disk 3 and this one is go, go, go. I was sweating up a storm even before the warm-up was done. I got a little nervous. HA!
It was awesome! I think I'm going to need bigger weights though. Although the one guy was using bands and I do have those, so maybe I'll try them next. I'll have to review what the color of the bands mean though so I don't kill myself. I have 5lb dumbbells here at the house, and they worked well. I had a burn a few times, but overall it was probably a tad too easy for me. I completed at least 15 reps on every exercise (yea, too easy...darn). I went ahead and did the Bonus Round. Loved, loved, loved the side tri-rises. I'd never heard of them before, but they'll be a new favorite.
I put in the Ab Ripper X - OMG! I was wondering where the sheet was to keep track. Well it's simple, do 25 of everything. Um, not so simple. I did take it easy so that my ab muscles wouldn't flare up...I mean seriously, am I the only person in the World who gets a charlie horse in her abs?! I did at least 10 of every exercise except for the crunchy frogs - Ouch! and the v-up/roll-up - OMFG! HA - pardon my french. Good grief those were tough. I can't wait to be able to do all 25 of them! AND I WILL DO ALL 25!!
So, day 3 of P90X and I'm loving it. I feel great and super strong! I hope this energy keeps up. I'm seriously thinking about doing the shakes and replenishing drinks. It's all so expensive...now I know why there are so many coaches (discount!).
Speaking of coaches...never heard from the one randomly assigned to me. I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed in beachbody. I'm super stoked to be doing P90X, but I feel as if the website as a whole is a bit complex. It's hard to know where to go to look for help, and it seems that everyone is a coach and every coach has different opinions (and some have no idea what they're talking about). Anyway, not sure I like the site, but I LOVE the workout!

P90X, Day 2 - Plyo!
Wow! Plyometrics was day 2. Cool! Plyometrics is basically jumping moves - lots of going from a squat straight into the air. I had a really busy day today, so I didn't get to do the workout until around 830 when the kiddos were in bed. If I'd known it was going to be Plyo I would've tried to do it sooner - talk about an energy rush. Chris, I think I know what your Insanity workouts are like, and, yes, you're getting an excellent workout! That PRT should be nothing when you get home. :)
My arms were a little sore today after yesterday, but nothing crazy. I moved an entire playset today and then scrubbed it down. I almost didn't workout tonight, but told myself, why not. The kiddos are being quiet and I'm sure it's just arms or something. HA!
I drank chocolate milk after my workout - my hubby told me about that one. I also ate an apple...hopefully it'll keep the munchies at bay.
Let's see what tomorrow brings. :)

P90X - Do your best, forget the rest
I'm not sure why today of all day's, but I did it. I removed the box containing P90X from the bottom of a stack of books, dusted it off, and put Day 1, disk 1, Chest and Back, into the DVD player. Denver was napping and Katelynn was happily playing with a set of 1 lb dumbbells and a blue resistance tube (that's right she'll never have confidence issues!).
I was surprised - it wasn't bad. Um...does that mean I didn't work hard enough? Not sure, but when I got in the shower afterwards my arms were shaking as I tried to wash my hair. LOL. It was tough, but not impossible like I was expecting. I imagine as it gets further into it I'm going to be complaining, but really it was no worse then a bootcamp beat-down! You just have to set your mind to task and focus on what you want.
It worked out perfectly today. Denver napped long enough for me to do it (PLUS shower) and Katelynn happily played along. I even asked her how many diamond push-ups to do, "Pick a number between 1 and 10." She yelled, "10!" HA! Not sure I'll get this lucky every day, but nobody says I have to do it everyday - I'll just get optimal results doing it everyday.
Just noticed that today says Ab Ripper X as well...didn't do that. And it won't get done tonight - coffee is leaving my body, kiddos are in bed, and my bed is calling me. But, anyway, I'm telling you, I pulled it out, and just put it in. I figured, let's get this thing started - why not?! That and I couldn't go for a run because of the rain so I was feeling a bit restless.
And, I did take photos (actually Chris and I took them in May before he deployed, and I haven't changed so they'll do), but I'm not ready for that type of embarrassment. Maybe in 90 days if I look better at the end of the program I'll post a start and finish, just to show how far I'll have gone. Maybe. We'll see. Doubt it. I'll probably have to do the program 2 maybe 3 times before I post photos of myself in sports bra and shorts. ICK!
I don't think I'll post the reps I did, that's all in my notebook, but I will put my starting measurements. Gulp, almost as bad as a photo, but not quite...and then if it was perfect I wouldn't be doing the P90X.
Weight: 193
Chest - 41"
Waist - 41" (Can I blame that on 2 babies?)
Hips - 44 1/2"
Rt Thigh - 30 1/2"
Lt Thigh - 30 1/2"
Rt Arm - 15 1/2"
Lt Arm - 15 1/2"
There it is, out there for all to see (not that anyone bothers to read this but you two, but still).
The only thing I'm not sure about is food. I hate the whole idea of drinking shakes and eating bars and such, so I'll stick with counting calories for now, but after I get through the first 30 days, I might change it up some.
Let's just see what tomorrow brings!

Really?!
Yesterday was full of ups and downs and today isn't looking much better. My running partner had to cancel this morning (I totally understand), and I tried to talk myself out of running - it's overcast so it's going to rain and I don't want to get stuck with the kiddos. I went to weather.com and it said only 10% chance of rain until around 1pm. There went that excuse!
So, I got the kiddos breakfast and tried to get out the door - what a nightmare! A baby screaming because he didn't want to be in his carseat, a two-year old having a meltdown because she couldn't get her shoes on (they are clogs that just slide on her feet), and a dog running circles around my legs because he's excited to be going out. OMG! I should've known then, but I continued.
I decided to stay on base this morning, after the way things were going who knows what would've happened. I ran at the parade field on base - 1 lap = 1 mile. I started off walking for 3 minutes, then reset my watch and jogged for 2 minutes when a lady stopped and asked me for directions, ran for the next minute (seriously - it was like a spring pace for me...I have no idea where the energy came from...maybe those 2 cups of coffee this morning?!).
My running plan right now is to "run" for 3 minutes, walk for 2 minutes. I want to repeat it at least 5 times (that would be 15 minutes of running). I got to 4 (does the first one count if I had to stop and give directions??) when Denver wouldn't stop crying!
I finished the 4th set and then let Katelynn walk and carried Denver for about 1/2 mile. Then I put Denver back in the stroller and finished up. He was asleep before we got home, but I managed to get him into his crib without waking him! Geesh!
So that's been my morning. I'm so proud of myself for even going. I told myself that what matters is that I'm doing something not how far I went or how fast I ran or how many "sets" I was able to accomplish. YEAH ME!
Geesh!

The Biggest Loser
I'm watching the season premiere of Biggest Loser and it's actually inspiring me! Normally I watch and inhale all kinds of crap food (right Chris?!). This season they have a new trainer - Dolvett. This guy is going to whip those contestants into shape, and it's inspiring. He really reminds me of my personal trainer that I had before leaving CO.
So, I'm making a commitment to myself. I'm starting back again. Jumping in with both feet. Barb and I started last week actually. I wrote everything I ate down for the entire week, then Barb and I discussed it. It really does help to see it all in front of you, but it's annoying to me. I see what I eat, but I don't know the calories. I'm not sure I can use an online tracker because of the time it takes. I'm still going to write what I eat down but also include the calories, so I can see the numbers.
I started running again last week as well. I ran with my friend Shannon on Tuesday and Thursday. Now this week we are meeting Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. She couldn't make it Monday, and instead of letting it get me down I went anyway! I was so proud of myself.
I feel motivated for the first time in months! I think it has something to do with Chris coming home soon too. The cloud is starting to lift.
