Day 39, TF

Tonight's workout was Fire 30 (still my fave!) and Tone 30. I didn't meet up with the girl's this evening. My kiddos were beyond crazy; they weren't behaving at home there was no way they'd behave at the center. It actually went pretty well doing it here. Denver ran around and clapped and danced and Katelynn watched, then got bored and went to color.
I need to take a moment and work on my goal's for August. I didn't make any for July and it felt weird. I like to have mini-goals and then one big goal for the month. I think it helps keep me focused. I'll work on them tomorrow - I'm exhausted this evening. The kids really stressed me out today. Time to go and sip on my sleepy time tea and enjoy the Olympics.

Flaxseed and Oatmeal

I bought a box of milled flax seed. I heard it was good for you and some of the recipes I saw had it in it; however I wasn't really sure about using it so it just sat in my cupboard for awhile. Then I got my "Eat Clean Diet" book and Tosca says she uses 1 Tbsp of it at breakfast every day (along with bee pollen and wheat germ - two other things I'm not so sure about). For the past few mornings I've mixed it with my oatmeal and it's awesome! This morning I woke up with a ton of energy. I don't know why. I have an idea why, but I don't know if it's related. I've been eating really well lately and I started using flax seed.
My friend Steph that I workout with eats clean too. She gave me a sample of the bee pollen. I sprinkled 1/2 Tbsp in my oatmeal this morning too. It did effect the taste, but it wasn't horrible. It dissolved as soon as I stirred it up. I'm going to have to go and buy some bee pollen too.
Anyway, I figured I'd share. I'm enjoying my new find.

My morning oatmeal: Peach
1 cup almond milk
1/2 cup oats (I use Quaker)
cook in microwave or stovetop
while it's cooking I'll mix 1 Tbsp greek yogurt with 1/2 Tbsp honey and 1/4 tsp almond extract in my bowl. Then dump the oatmeal on top along with 1 Tbsp flax seed. Stir it all together and cover with cut-up peaches. Oh so yummy! My new favorite breakfast - seriously, I've had it 4 mornings in a row now.

Day 35, TF

Tomorrow starts week 6 of TF already! This program is just flying right on by...I love it! Tonight's workout was Core 20 and Stretch 40. I've yet to finish the entire stretch 40 video...something always happens. Tonight the kiddos broke through the barricade and Denver came screaming at me and flung himself into my lap. That's two nights in a row that I didn't get to finish my workout. It's all good though.
Why is it all good?! Because I just got my copy of "The Eat Clean Diet" by Tosca Reno and I haven't been able to put it down. My eating for the past two days has been really good! She says that it's 80% what you eat, 10% workout, and 10% genes, so since my workouts have faltered a little I need to step it up in the nutrition part. The book even has a couple weeks of meal plans for me to follow. As soon as payday rolls around I'm going to be switching things up.
Tomorrow Tabitha and I are meeting at the track again for our run. It went so well on Tuesday, fingers crossed it goes well again tomorrow. There were two other Ladies on the running page that said they were coming with their kids as well; which means there will probably be around 11 kids there! HA! Should be interesting. Plenty of room for all of them! It's a huge track with a giant fence so no where for those kiddos to escape to.
Found this online tonight and I think this might work for Denver! ROFL!

if you still look cute...

Sometimes I just have to laugh at myself. I thought my photos just looked awful last night and then my friend Steph sent me this....
I love it! So very true. Today I am proud of my photo! Sweat was just pouring off of me. I didn't think that I looked much different when comparing my photos from day 1 and day 30, and then my friend Patti put them together for me. I can see some changes!

This morning I met Tabitha at the track on base and we did some sprint training. The kids ran in the center field while we did our laps - it worked out beautifully! We ran/jogged a mile and then we did another mile where we'd sprint the straight's and walk the curves, so 8 sprints total. It was pretty humid out so sweat was pouring off of me again. It took us 20 minutes, but that was plenty in the heat (and we have Fire 55EZ tonight). Hoping the sprint work helps with our 5K times.

Day 30 of TF

I so should've taken this photo BEFORE working out! ICK! You can see the sweat just pouring off of me, but guess that's a good thing. I also think that tank top is a very bad look for me. I will have to remember to put those in the GoodWill bag (I think I have 3 of them).
Here are my stats so far (Day 1 / Day 30):
Weight: 169 / 166
Chest: 37 / 37
Waist: 35 / 34.25
Hips: 38.5 / 38
Thighs: 26.5 / 27.5 (this CAN NOT be right!)
Arms: Left 12.5 / 12.5  Right 12.5 / 12
Abductor: 44.5 / 43
Overall not bad results especially considering that I missed an entire week. Chris left for deployment Saturday morning at 4am and at 930am I was working out with Tabitha. It felt good to do TF again - I missed it!
Sunday Tabitha and I ran. It was something like torture for me. I pushed just Denver in the jogging stroller (Katelynn stayed at Tabitha's and played with her two girls) and Tabitha pushed her son. I know I slowed her down big time - she had a ton of energy and I was just dragging. I'm not sure if it was the humidity or a week of bad decisions catching up with me. Either way, it was a very sluggish run for me.
Sunday was also supposed to be a rest day from TF, but since I had an entire rest week, I went ahead and did HIIT 20 and Core 20. It felt good too!
Tonight was Day 32. I had Steph take my photo so I could have a 30 day shot. We did Fire 30 (so far this is my absolute favorite!!!) and Tone 30. Great workouts! Tomorrow it's a long one - Fire 55EZ. Oh boy!

Short and Sweet

I haven't blogged in what feels like ages. I am still here and still doing well. I haven't done TF since Friday, and it's not because I don't want to either. We've been super, super busy and it's been a little emotional around here as well. We will be sending Chris off very soon; thankfully for a shorter deployment then last time. Anyway, I am here, we are doing lots of family stuff (hiking, swimming, traveling) and I've put my workouts on the back burner so we can spend even more time together as a family.
Tomorrow morning he goes back to work for a few hours so I'm setting my alarm for 6am and I have a few TF workouts planned - a 15 minute HIIT, 30 minute toner, and core 20, and possibly stretch 10 after all of it just to keep me from getting sore. Thursday we're planning a family bike ride and possibly a camping trip over the weekend.
My eating has actually been really good lately (probably from the stress and heat). I'll be missing for a bit, but no worries, I'll be back in full swing before you know it...I'll need something to focus on other then his absence.

7/17/12 - Starting Over, Barby

I have been a little discouraged lately because of the weight gain and I was talking to my sister about how I didn't want to blog yet another "starting over" blog. "But that's the point, you have a bad day, you get up, and you start over". So here I am. I'm in my new house and my kitchen will be done by the weekend so I can start cooking and getting back to eating healthy again. But now it's delivery and junk food sitting every where so I went to the grocery store and bought some fruit, some healthy frozen dinners for lunches, and honest tea and newman o's so I wouldn't be tempted to buy soda and junk food from the snack machine. Yesterday for some reason I just could not stop binging - it's true that once you have the soda or the sweet treat you feel like you need to have more and more as the day goes on. But this needs to stop and I need to take control again because I'm not happy. So today I am starting over.

Day 18, TF

Okay, so yesterday I didn't do the workouts I missed. My bad. No worries, I more then made up for it today. I got up this morning and met Tabitha at the Parade Field for a "run." We both had the double jogging strollers with 2 kids (pushing at least 60 lbs). We are rock stars! We ran 2.4 miles at around a 12 minute mile pace. YEAH! It was super hard too. I told Tabitha I need to get used to pushing it again since Chris is leaving soon, and the only way I'll be able to run is with it.
Next up was I See Fit People's new challenge - yep, they're doing another one. This time it's stairs. 1 flight of stairs = 15 steps, or in other words up my stairs is a flight. I ran up and down my stairs 70 times today.
 Kids wanted a photo too...
I put up the baby gate so I could go up and down without tripping over my son. He thought it was hilarious that I was going up and down, up and down. He stood at the bottom of the stairs and yelled "up!" LOL! If I climb them 70 times for 7 days I will "climb" Mount Snowdon, Wales. Pretty right?!
And then after all that, I did my 2 mile walk to and from our TurboFire workout. Tonight it was HIIT 15 and Tone 30. Great workouts! I really like the HIIT's - short and sweet, and so very effective. Last week we did Sculpt 30 and I was sore the next day and I fully expect to be sore tomorrow; they were pretty similar workouts with only a few minor differences (in Tone we do 12 of all exercises and then 8 quick ones, I don't remember doing that in Sculpt). Those resistance bands are a great workout. I was starving today - not really surprised, so I had oatmeal and hot tea for a late night snack. Hunger solved!
Tomorrow I'm fully expecting to be sore. I hope it's not too bad. ;)

Update

Things here are going well. I had a fabulous time visiting my parents. I don't usually share photos of my family on this blog (I have a separate one for just family stuff), but here are a few shots of what we did over the 4th...
Picking strawberries
Riding around with Nana and Pap-pap
 Digging potatoes

I did not get any of my workouts in - which I'm not really that surprised. I did however bring home a ton of natural, organic produce from my parents farm (strawberries, potatoes, lettuce, radishes, cucumbers, basil, green beans, red beets). It hit 100 degrees every day we were there. We got up early to help my parents in the gardens in the morning, spent the afternoon in the house, and then went back outside around 6pm to do some more garden stuff. It was a wonderful, relaxing 4 days.
Overall I only missed 2 workouts. I did 45EZ before leaving on Tuesday and then last night I met up with the girls and did 45EZ again (I walked to and from the fitness center so I got a 2 mile walk in too). I missed Core 20 and Low HIIT 20 so I'm going to do them both tomorrow, and then I'll be all caught up.
This morning I walked to the fitness center again and we did Low HIIT 25 and stretch 10. Still not a fan of the low HIIT video (seriously who is that annoying person whooping in the background?! My friend said if you Fire Up the music you don't hear it...I'll have to remember that next time). It's not a bad workout - all lower body squats and lunges, its just not my fave.
I feel weird - I realized today that I haven't ran in over a week! The last time I did a run was Friday the 29th - the same night we lost our power. I'm getting up tomorrow at 730 and going for a run. Hopefully it won't be too hot. Tomorrow night storms are supposed to roll through that will cool things down. We'll see how that plays out. I figured I'd get up and run so I'm not rained out. Fingers crossed for cooler temps this week!

Day 11 TF

I'm not sure if today should be day 13 or day 11 of Turbofire, so I'm making it day 11. I missed two days for loss of power, so last night I started where I left off. This morning I knocked out 45EZ and stretch 10. It was really weird working out in the morning instead of the evening. My energy level definitely wasn't at it's normal level, but it was still a great workout. I'm heading to my parent's house for a few days this afternoon, so I won't be around for a bit; they have a computer, but it's dial up and takes forever to load, so it's easier to just enjoy my time away then to try and worry about getting on the computer. I'm taking my workout videos, so I'm hoping to find the time to squeeze them in. If not, they live on a farm so I'll definitely be doing something! Have a safe week and wonderful 4th of July every one!!

Powering Through

Friday was my "rest day" from TF, but I still did a 4 mile run with Tabitha - in 90 degree heat...we're a bunch of crazies, I know. Late Friday evening we got a freakish storm that only rolls through this area every so many years. It happened super quick and took out our power for 2 1/2 days - it went out Friday around 11pm and finally came back on Sunday around 7pm. My Sister so graciously hosted me and the kiddos (Chris had to work this weekend) all day on both Saturday and Sunday (we came home and slept in the hot house). Thankfully she lives close but didn't lose her power. She also got all my meat from the freezer - 4 chicken breasts and 5 lbs of hamburg plus some apple chicken sausages. We ended up having to throw away a lot of food, but thankfully we weren't fully stocked.
So anyway, I didn't workout for the past two days. Not having any power kind of sidelines my fitness attempts. I probably could've done them at my Sister's house (why didn't I think of that earlier?!). It broke 100 both days and our house was so hot. I wasn't sleeping at night, the kids were not sleeping well and woke up early; it was pretty much a miserable two days although it could have been a lot worse for my little family. I'm so very, very thankful that my Sister was here for us.
Tonight all three of us had power again (plus the Community Center on base that we use) so we met up and did Saturday's workout - HIIT 15 and Sculpt 30. Great little workout!! It was nice to do some strength training tonight, and with two days off these felt like a perfect intro back into TF.
And now it's time to get sidelined again. I'm going to get up tomorrow and do my workout then I'm off to my parent's place for a few days. It's just a short trip this time. My parents don't have a very big place or a good internet connection so I won't be logging my food (I haven't logged in 3 days due to lack of power) and I'm not sure I'll get my workouts in. I'll take them with me; we'll see if I can make it happen or not. Do your best, and forget the rest!
