Catching Up

I got a new Muscle and Fitness Hers magazine in the mail yesterday and added it to my ever growing stack of magazines. For some reason I paused and wondered how many magazines I've gotten lately that I just haven't taken the time to read. Here they are! And I was wondering where all my motivation went! Here it is - stuck in a giant pile gathering dust, just like my blogs. If I don't use the tools that make me successful, how can I continue to stay motivated and do well? Makes sense to me this morning.
I started with the Weight Watchers magazine. I don't follow WW, but I LOVE their magazine!!! The letter from David Kirchhoff, President and CEO always hits home with me. He said some things in this issue that struck home with me, "For the record, let me make the following statement about dealing with weight problem: It's not simple and it's not easy. If it were, we would not have an obesity problem." So very true. I have no idea why I think it should be so easy for me to stick with it. It makes sense that there will be struggles and obstacles. If it were easy, I guess everyone would be fit and fabulous!
When I left the Navy in 2006 I weighed around 175 pounds and I was considered obese. Scared the crap out of me, but it wasn't until 2009 after my daughter was born that I went for a physical that I made any changes. Dr. told me I had borderline high cholesterol and referred me to the base nutritionist. BEST thing that ever happened to me. The nutritionist told me it was a lifestyle change. She said things that just clicked with me. I've been making little changes ever since. I'm not a big believer in jumping with both feet first and making a ton of changes. I make adjustments here and there, slow and steady works for me.
Another thing the CEO said in his letter that hit home, "Maintaining weight loss may not be easy, but let me be clear - it is absolutely possible. It is particularly possible if we are smart, if we consider it a lifestyle change and if we do it the right way. We have to make different and healthier choices every day. We have to do it for the long term, not just for the next two months." See why I love this magazine?! He speaks right to me in all his letters.
I also love the magazine for the excellent recipes and great advice and tips. It's an all around great magazine. I can't wait to dig into the rest of my magazines. It'll probably take me several days, but I'm feeling motivated already!!!
