Scales and weight

How often do you weigh yourself? I try to do it once a week (Monday mornings), but find myself stepping on the scale almost every day. The only day I really count is Monday though, that's the day I put my weight on my calendar upstairs. I'm doing the Dump your Plump base challenge so I keep thinking I need to lose weight - which is extra frustrating since my home scale has said 182 for 7 weeks now...ALTHOUGH this morning it said 181! I lost 1 lb - at home.
On the first day of the challenge the scale at the gym said 184. Last week it said 185. My home scale still said 182. Tonight I'll weigh myself at the gym again although I will wait until Wednesday to submit in case I get a lower number before Wednesday. Wonder what it will say? 186?? LOL
I have an entire other rant about the competition though - the top male lost 8% of his weight the first week!! That is a lot of weight for one person. Every thing I've ever read has said that if you want to lose weight safely (and keep it off) then you should aim for 1 - 2 lbs. I know that you can get bigger numbers then 1 to 2 lbs per week, but usually that means you are doing something drastic (skipping meals, not eating the right foods...all things that set you up for failure). The first week I ever started changing my diet (measuring food, having only 1 portion based off of the label) I lost 5 lbs...that was 3%. Just say this man weighs 240 lbs, that would be 19.2 lbs in one week. It was equally bad for the top woman - she lost 6%...so say she weighs 220 lbs, that would be 13 lbs in one week. The top team (they are of 4 people) lost just under 6%. I have no idea what the top female and male were doing last week, but I hope they are not hurting themselves just to win a competition.
I told the ladies in my group that I don't want any of them starving or hurting themselves just to win. I'm not in it to win it, I just want a reason to stay motivated - of course winning would be nice, but it certainly isn't worth risking your health over...I'd just be happy to figure out this plateau. The competition is 8 weeks long. My goal weight loss is 15 lbs. I would love to lose 20, but we'll just have to see what happens.

Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now. Back to my whole scale issue. I think for the sake of my blog and my own sanity I will only focus on the numbers on my home scale. Besides, after the competition I will still have weight to lose so I might as well go off of what I have the most access to. Since I lost 1 lb at home I get to use my weight loss jars. Good bye stone - only 33 more to go!
